Joseph’s by the Sea has long been one of Old Orchard Beach’s most beloved dining destinations, known for coastal Maine hospitality, ocean views, and a special-occasion dining experience overlooking the sea.
The restaurant’s story began in 1968, when Joseph and Marietta Dussault moved to Old Orchard Beach to pursue a new endeavor: opening a restaurant on the coast of Maine. When Joseph and Marietta later retired, the restaurant was passed down to their children, Paul, Lou, and Helen, who continued the family tradition and preserved the integrity of a fine dining restaurant by the sea.
Over the years, each generation helped shape the Joseph’s experience while staying true to its roots. The menu expanded to feature local seafood and coastal cuisine, and in 2018, as part of Joseph’s 50th anniversary celebration, the dining area was enlarged and a rooftop deck was added for outdoor dining during the warmer months.
After more than five decades of Dussault family stewardship, Joseph’s continued to evolve under local business owners, Scott and Barbara McCrum, while staying rooted in the same seaside hospitality, coastal cuisine, and special-occasion atmosphere that guests had come to love. Recent updates to the dining spaces and outdoor areas have helped further enhance the restaurant’s signature oceanfront experience.
Today, Joseph’s by the Sea continues that tradition with a dedicated leadership team focused on preserving what makes the restaurant special while bringing energy and care to its next chapter.
At the center of that continuity is General Manager Erica Stagg, granddaughter of founder Joseph Dussault. Erica continues to lead the front-of-house team, oversee events, and carry forward the welcoming spirit and personal touch that have defined Joseph’s for generations.
With a strong team in place and a continued commitment to great food, warm service, ocean views, and tradition, Joseph’s by the Sea remains focused on the experience that has brought guests back year after year.
Locally Sourced Seafood
Joseph’s is pleased to serve fresh seafood caught off the Maine coast by local lobstermen and fishermen. As much as possible, vegetables and other ingredients are also sourced in Maine. We strive to give our customer the best seaside dining experience along the coast of southern Maine.
